Discover how LASIK Surgery can improve your vision, and improve your life.
The LASIK procedure (Laser in-situ keratomileusis) is a quick and effective refractive surgery that restores the cornea’s ability to accurately focus light.
This type of laser eye surgery will dramatically improve vision and eliminate refractive errors such as near or far-sightedness, and astigmatism.
When performing LASIK eye surgery, Dr. Eduardo Besser uses a laser to reshape the cornea by removing thin, microscopic layers, and smoothing irregularities. The procedure is completed quickly — usually in just 15-20 minutes for both eyes — with most patients experiencing immediate results directly following vision correction surgery.
After surgery
A significant number (59%) of patients could see 20/16 or better, and 22% could see at 20/12 or better.
The cornea is the transparent dome covering the front of the eye. It protects the eye, screens out ultraviolet light, and bends or “refracts” light, helping the eye to focus.
Refractive errors occur when the shape, smoothness, or transparency of the cornea changes, hindering the eye’s ability to focus properly. These errors often develop when the curve of the cornea is not even or is elongated, resulting in myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism.
LASIK vision correction surgery is a safe and effective way to reshape the cornea to correct these errors.
Our LASIK refractive surgery procedures are performed at our Beverly Hills surgery center. First, Dr. Besser creates a thin flap in the cornea by using a state-of-the-art femtosecond laser, then folds it back to access inner corneal tissues.
Next, an excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea to ablate the inner corneal tissues. Dr. Besser then replaces the flap over the cornea to promote healing.
Patients usually enjoy a dramatic improvement in their vision the very same day, although refractive stabilization may take up to three months, depending on the extent of the surgery.
